NASA catches heavy rainfall happening in Category 4 Earl as it approaches the US (page 3)

Mandatory evacuations have gone up for visitors along parts of North Carolina?s coastal islands on Wednesday as Hurricane Earl continues its path toward the eastern seaboard of the United States, churning up dangerous swells. Earl weakened slightly overnight as it moved across the Atlantic east of the Bahamas. It is still a strong Category 3 hurricane and is on track to approach the North Carolina coast early Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Earl had sustained winds of 125 mph, with hurricane force winds extending outward up to 90 miles, and tropical storm winds up to 200 miles ahead of the storm. Though a direct landfall on the east coast was not forecast, the hurricane is expected to sideswipe the densely populated coast from North Carolina to New England and continue northward on an offshore path through the Labor Day weekend.
